Guidelines for Use of Trademarks

Trademarks are very important to the SM101. You may use SM101 trademarks or product names to refer to the SM101's products and services provided you follow these guidelines.

Permissible and Correct Use

You may generally use the trademarks to refer to the associated SM101 products or services. For instance, an authorized reseller can note in its advertisements that it is selling the specific SM101 product. Similarly, a customer may issue a press release stating that it is using SM101 services.

To comply with our legal requirements you must adhere to the following:

  • Your use must not mislead consumers as to any SM101 sponsorship, affiliation, or endorsement of your company, or your products or services.
  • You must not use SM101 trademarks, Logos, or trade dress, or potentially confusing variations, as all or part of your company, product or service names.
  • You must not use any SM101 trademark in such a manner that it appears SM101 is legally associated with your company.
  • You must display your company name more prominently than any SM101 trademark on all Web Site pages and on all materials, including product, packaging, advertising, and other collateral.
  • You must not vary SM101 trademarks by changing their spelling or abbreviating them.
  • Any use of a SM101 Logo to indicate compatibility with your products and services must be pursuant to a license (see Logos below).
  • Your use of a SM101 trademark must not be obscene, pornographic, disparaging, defamatory or libelous to SM101.

Properly Identify SM101 Products

When referencing SM101 products and services, apply the appropriate trademark symbols in accordance with the list of current SM101 trademarks outlined above. Use the ® or TM symbol with the most prominent appearance of the “Service Management 101” mark on products, packaging, manuals, advertisements, promotional materials and Web Site pages (e.g. in the headline of an advertisement), and the first use of the mark in text or body copy. You should introduce the trademark as a proper adjective followed by the appropriate descriptor outlined in the table above. You must not use an SM101 trademark in the possessive or plural form.

Use Trademark Notices

Include an attribution of SM101's ownership of the trademark(s) within the credit notice section of your documentation or advertisement. The format to follow is:

“(Appropriate trademark, such as 'Service Management 101, USMBOK') are either registered trademarks or trademarks of the SM101 in the United States and/or other countries.”

Logos

Do not use the SM101 Logos, symbols, or icons on or in connection with products, packaging, manuals, promotional/advertising materials, or Web Site for any purpose except pursuant to an express written trademark license from SM101.

The SM101 Corporate Logo may only be used in limited situations to refer to SM101.

Tag Lines

You may indicate the relationship of your products or services to SM101 products or services by using accurate, descriptive tag lines such as “works with SM101 services ” in connection with your product or service name. Within text or body copy, such tag lines may appear in the same type as your product or service name.

Linking To the SM101 Web Site

The SM101 permits linking to the SM101's Web Site subject to the linker's compliance with the 'Link Agreement' terms and conditions.
